Artists' Statement

"FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION"
(Walls & Murals)
Artist(s): "SMART ARTS CLUBS" - Queensland, AUSTRALIA

This Mural was specially painted for the 1997 International Graffiti Art  Competition. It is the combined efforts and talents of 200 Local Graffitists from "toys"to "kings" in the most socially depressed area of Australia - Logan City.

Artists were male, female,  Aboriginal as well as many other ethnic backgrounds. It has been a battle with Councillors wishing to sanitize the images but the Artists fought for their  "Freedom of Expression".

Graf carries a 7 year imprisonment here and this is the first and largest Mural / Piece /  Join-up in Australia, legally done on this scale, with so many hardcore Crus.

"It is dedicated to the memory of those who are no longer with
us on the journey and  Aboriginal Graffitist deaths in custody".

Theme: Freedom of Expression.
