" I quickly discovered as I was shooting Graffiti
Verite', how serious and dedicated these artists
are about their work," says Bryan. "The real truth about Graffiti
Art completely destroys the old
stereotyped image that Graffiti Art is only about vandalism and tag-banging.
Nothing could be
further from the truth! These inspired artists efforts are Art-intended,
irregardless of whether
or not they paint on a wall or a canvas."
In addition to
the Documentary Screening, Mr. Bryan's presentation will encompass the
discussion of:
The Controversial
Contemporary Graffiti Art Movement (Is it Art?)
Hip-hop (pros and
con's)
Discussion on: Can
Hip-hop can be taught in Schools?
Hip-hop as a Multiple
Intelligence Learning Model and Template
The Creative Approach
to Indie Filmmaking
Real World Documentary
Film Distribution (What works)
" The GV Documentaries fresh educational value
and approach to communications is so high.
There's an opportunity here to tap into the dynamic modalities of
Hip-hop, to acknowledge the
different learning styles, creative intelligence's, preoccupation,
values and passions of our children.
We can accomplish all this, while fulfilling the curriculum goals and objectives
of our schools system.
The truth is, that educators need to be schooled on the inherent positive
attributes of Hip-hop, while
students need to examine the potential of Hip-hop that transcends Bling-bling
and the glorification of
homophobia, misogyny and materialism. These goals can complement each
other, and does not need to
be mutually exclusive! In 2005 we cannot
afford to ignore the fact that rapper Tupac Shakur
was a superb and talented poet, that Eminem has won an Oscar, and that
Hip-hop music has
become the all-pervasive soundtrack for our lives in the 21st Century."--Bob Bryan, Filmmaker and Author
